I grew up in a rural-sh area where a lot of rednecks live.

Was there racism? Sure. Plenty of it. But when a tiny clan rally was held in the county in the early 80's., there were pick-up trucks full of red-necks looking to "kick Klansman ass."

The "n word" was thrown around, but it was definitely transgressive, and even old school Dixiecrats running the county were sure to get their asses handed to them in elections if they said it (as happened twice). The County party renounced them.

What the hell happened? It seems these things can just be said openly. White Supremacy is certainly frowned upon, it seems, but that doesn't stop anyone from voting for them because, ya know, her emails. It's like a huge chunk of the country decided to cash in all its integrity chips.

Racism is acceptable in exchange for tax cuts for the rich.
