Tiger Loose on Georgia Streets Attacks Dog, Killed by Police

http://people.com/pets/tiger-killed-georgia-police-dog-attack/

A wild morning came to a tragic end on Wednesday in Henry County, Georgia.

According to 11 Alive, the Henry County Police Department first received calls about a large tiger prowling I-75 on Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to the calls and quickly located the animal. Once they had visual confirmation, the police called animal experts to help them sedate and move the tiger. Unfortunately, before the handlers arrived the tiger left the interstate and walked into a residential community, where it attacked a dog in the backyard of one of the residences.

People who have tigers as pets are idiots.

Hours after a tiger rummaged through a Henry County neighborhood, attacked a dog and was shot and killed by police, local and state authorities found its owner.

Feld Entertainment, Inc. said a circus presenter owned Suzy, the 6-year-old Bengal tiger that managed to escape from the fleet, spokesman Stephen Payne told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The tiger’s owner, Alexander Lacey, was contracted to work with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus.

The Department of Natural Resources said Feld Entertainment, which was transporting the animal, reported the tiger missing from a shipment traveling from Florida to Tennessee.

“The truck had stopped in Georgia during the overnight hours, and during that stop the female Bengal tiger managed to escape unnoticed,” DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon said in a news release. “(The company) discovered that she was missing when the truck arrived at the destination.”

I am in Georgia and travel on I-75 in a regular basis. That is a scary story.

That poor tiger had a terrible life and death.

Edit: Circus tigers were being transported to be shipped out of the country by aircraft at an airport somewhere in Tennessee.
