(10,437 posts)start diminishing once you move out from the eye. A storm like Irma maybe 650 miles in diameter but the damaging winds are way closer in. News people and weather folks like to sensationalize for audience. When you are 200 miles away from the center,,,its more like a longlasting thunderstorm with winds 20-30 mph

(2,747 posts)They boarded up the house and went to friends in Ft. Lauderdale whose home is supposedly more protected. But with these winds and storm, who knows? We're watching the news and hoping for the best.
