How would that work again?
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)They would, of course, want that federal assistance and then cry like babies how it wasn't fast enough or as much as they deserved....

(33,956 posts)the majority of the areas hit were Democratic areas in Texas.
I'm pretty certain that they weren't ever talking about secession...

(28,817 posts)I'm talking the blowhard media whores
The anti-gubment crowd. I don't think the majority Dems or Repubs want to leave the Union.

(54,358 posts)I guess there must be some out there somewhere, but they sure as hell don't hang around in Dallas.

(63,203 posts)They demonstrate tremendous courage of their convictions, chiefly because they know with certainty that they'll never actually be forced to live by their convictions.
The secessionists know that their states will never secede, so they get to make all sorts of bold, blustery statements about the virtues of states' rights, etc. Just like Libertarians spewing their garbage about Libertopia even as they put their garbage out on the curb for municipal pickup.

(54,358 posts)But I have never met one, in Texas or outside the state. Somehow, they don't tend to travel in the same circles I do. But, then again, I spend maybe a total of 25 days a year in Texas these days, maybe not even that

Never met a secessionist. But the media we watch say they exist, and if they exist they must be very common because if they're common then we have something to be outraged and offended about in a way that says we're superior.
When I moved to Eugene it was the same. I expected to find that everybody was out to kill every spotted owl they could find. Anywhere. Instead, most of the loggers I knew weren't nearly as vehemently anti-owl as the MSM made the average Oregonian out to be.
What's missing is some sort of quantification. "Texans want to secede" is true if out of all of Texas two Texans want to secede. But we interpret that to mean all or at least most. You ask the reporters for an idea as to amount, you get an answer. Often it's "I don't know." But if you get a numerical answer and ask why they don't provide the information the response is, "Where's the story in that?" If you say they're misleading the public, they fall back on strict logic. If two Texans want to secede then "Texans want to secede" is true.
Hi,
According to their website, the Texas Nationalist Movement has the monthly meeting on Saturday the 16th at a BBQ place in Grand Prairie.
The website has a statement on "Harvey" among other things.

I do see a fair number of the pickup trucks with bumper stickers which have "Secede" against a Texas flag. But I've managed to avoid the guys who actually want to talk about it.
