Sen. Ted Cruz said Tuesday that a staff member of his was responsible for "liking" a pornographic Twitter post with the Texas lawmaker's account, chalking up the social media snafu to a "mistake."
"There are a number of people on the team who have access on the account. It appears that someone inadvertently hit the like button. When we discovered the post, which was I guess an hour or two later, we pulled it down," Cruz (R-Texas) said of the incident. "It was a staffing issue. And it was inadvertent, it was a mistake. It was not a deliberate act. We're dealing with internally, but it was a mistake. It was not malicious."
Cruz told reporters Tuesday that it was "still being discussed" whether or not the staff member in question would retain access to the senator's social media account.

(10,749 posts)if Twitter has the IP address of the log-in that hit the like button. Not that they'd release it, but it sure would be hoot to make public the fact that this information is available.
I'm not on Twitter, but can multiple people log into the same account?
And it's incredibly easy in a string of tweets to accidentally like the wrong thing that may come across any number of feeds.
My work window for it has seven columns pulling information in different configurations. Some of them move faster and I accidentally like the wrong things from time to time.
It's easy to mock him on this, and rightly so because it helps to point out his horribly positions on sexuality, but the reality is that this is easily attributable to such simple problems. Especially when you add in mobile access, etc.
But yes, you can assign any number of people to have access to an account in order to do things with it.

(8,138 posts)A staffer was accessing the account then? That's dedication!
Anyway, they should fire the "staffer" so we know who it is and can ask questions.

(6,397 posts)There's always staffers keeping the "brand" alive. And they may not all be in the same state but spread out some, while he's in DC they may be in texas or one may be in Cali prepping for an event, etc.
Again, not trying to make excuses, but working in social media myself this is absolutely a nothing kind of thing in general but makes for a silly day of political hay.
