Instagram video of Queens students singing popular song with racial slur causes controversy

QUEENS — Controversy brews at an all-girls Catholic School in Queens after an Instagram video surfaced this week showing a few students singing to a song with a racial slur.

The group of teens were recorded singing on a school bus swearing and repeating the N word, which has sparked outrage for some teens at the high school.

“ I’m very upset,” one student told PIX11, “they could have picked any other song, it’s a racial slur. It cannot be used.”

The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica, Queens responded to the incident saying they hope this will be a teachable moment

When are white people going to learn that they cannot use that word, even when repeating African American artists? More importantly, when are they going to teach their children this?

That's what the alt right does - they casually use words like that and think it's cool and funny. They then try to pass it off as "free speech" like that's a get out of jail free card. It isn't. Under any circumstances. When the UN says hate in this country is a problem, it's a fucking problem!

Just make sure you hate the right people. Look around, figure out who you want to be friends with and be allied with, and assimilate.

The racism is a tag-along option. It's the hate that's cool, sometimes it's against a racial or ethnic group, sometimes against a religious or cultural or political or economic group. Sometimes it's just against "that group over there" which is so utterly indistinguishable from your own that the group's have to actually consciously decide on a way to mark each group so a person can easily tell who is worthy of hate and who's worthy of loyalty.
