Trump Biographer David Cay Johnston: The President Is the Embodiment of Being a Racist

In the wake of ESPN host Jemele Hill’s description of President Donald Trump as a “white supremacist,” there has been a decent amount of media discussion focused on the merits of Hill’s assertion, with some straight up asking why her remarks are controversial since they seem accurate.

During this morning’s broadcast of MSNBC’s AM Joy, Trump biographer David Cay Johnston weighed in on this topic as well as Trump’s response to the violence in Charlottesville. And the way Johnston sees it, Hill’s label for Trump seems apt.

“He is a racist,’ he told host Joy Reid. “He’s been the subject of judicial administrative hearings about this. He’s made awful comments over the years.”

Johnston continued, bringing up the White House press secretary calling on Hill to be fired: “He is the embodiment of being a racist just as Miss Huckabee Sanders’ comments the other day are the embodiment of censorship and should have upset every single American who has even a modest amount of respect for our Constitution.”

And yet, there are still those who deny that which is glaringly obvious to anyone with even a modicum of functioning brain tissue. Even his deplorable worshipers have stopped denying he's a racist, preferring instead to counter all statements of the obvious with the argument that the word "racism" has somehow lost all meaning because of 'librul' overuse of it. No it hasn't.

Trump is the very definition of that word, or, as Mr. Johnston correctly points out, the very embodiment of it. It's why these deplorables fell in love with him in the first place, lest they forget that.

Moyers: You bring up his base. Those true believers aren’t the only ones who voted for him. As we are talking, I keep thinking: Here we have a man who kept asking what’s the point of having thermonuclear weapons if we cannot use them; who advocates using torture or worse against our prisoners of war; who urged that five innocent young people here in New York, black young people, be given the death penalty for a sexual assault, even after it was proven someone else had committed the crime; who boasted about his ability to get away with sexually assaulting women because of his celebrity and power; who urged his followers at political rallies to punch protesters in the face and beat them so badly that they have to be taken out on stretchers; who suggested that maybe some of his followers might want to assassinate his political rival, Hillary Clinton, if she were elected president, or at the very least, throw her in prison; who believes he would not lose voters if he stood in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shot someone. And over 63 million people voted to elect that man president!

This statement really sums up what I've been feeling, thinking, pondering, "digesting," and all-around gone bonkers from considering - HOW COULD WE ELECT SOMEONE LIKE THIS?

My God, what have we become?
