** UPDATE
Confusion swirled around that question Saturday after a Trump spokeswoman knocked down a report that said the White House, in a stunning about-face, plans to remain a part of the global pact to fight climate change.
There has been no change in the United States position on the Paris agreement, said spokeswoman Lindsay Walters.
As the President has made abundantly clear, the United States is withdrawing unless we can re-enter on terms that are more favorable to our country.

(6,374 posts)I'm more inclined to believe the Wall Street Journal, but I'm hopeful this is true. Would be a massive win for the world and a big blow to Trump's base.

(6,374 posts)The source in the story is the top energy official from the EU. I'm hoping the story is true, but I'm also preparing myself for the possibility that he might not be correct on it.
Notice that no other news organization has picked this up (yet). WSJ may have jumped the gun on this.

(99,710 posts)The statement came less than an hour after the Wall Street Journal reported that White House senior advisor Everett Eissenstat revealed the policy change in a Montreal meeting with environment officials from 30 countries.
The United States stated that they will not renegotiate the Paris Accord, but they will try to review the terms on which they could be engaged under this agreement, said the European Union's top climate official.

(17,862 posts)Either the report is lying, he went off the reservation, or Trump pulled the rug out from under him. Unless the first is true, then Eissenstat has to resign.
