The House just passed a giant 2018 spending bill package. Here's a small sampling of the disastrous provisions stuffed into it... (THREAD)

1- House voted to defund Title X family planning, @PPFA, teen pregnancy prevention programs, and vital NIH fetal tissue biomedical research

2- House voted to block implementation of DC's Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Act. (Use birth control? Get fired.)

3- House voted to spend $2.3B on the wall, new ICE agents and detention beds, and to launch more federal funding threats on sanctuary cities

4- House voted to block IRS enforcement of the Johnson amendment, allowing secret campaign financing to flow through tax-exempt churches

5- House voted to stop the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) from collecting data on gender or race based pay differences

6- House voted to increase funding for coal mining programs while slashing the EPA's budget & renewable energy programs by half a billion $

7- House voted to defund enforcement of Obama-era Social Cost of Carbon rule, EPA methane rule, and other vital oil and gas regulations

8- House voted to block implementation of the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act, and to undermine protections of the Endangered Species Act

9- House voted to block various National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) worker protections and the collection of workplace injury/illness data

10- House voted to prohibit enforcement of the Dept. of Labor fiduciary rule which protects people from self-enriching financial advisors

11- House voted to prevent the CDC from conducting research on the causes of gun violence and effective ways to prevent it

12- Remember the Financial CHOICE Act? The House added 88 PGS of its Dodd-Frank rollbacks to the 2018 spending bill

13- The House also voted to defund the implementation and enforcement of Obamacare. Just... all of it.

There are plenty more harmful provisions and cruel budget cuts in the House's omnibus spending bill, but we think you get the point... (END)

ps. All 12 spending bills must still go through the Senate! If you don't like something(s), call your Senators ➡️ http://5calls.org

It still needs to be scored by the CBO and if any element would increase the deficit past a 10 year period then it would require 60 votes.

Also there are specific rules that would have to followed including the Byrd amendment

1.If it does not produce a change in outlays or revenues;
2.If it produces an outlay increase or revenue decrease when the instructed committee is not in compliance with its instructions;
3.If it is outside the jurisdiction of the committee that submitted the title or provision for inclusion in the reconciliation measure;
4.If it produces a change in outlays or revenues which is merely incidental to the non-budgetary components of the provision;
5.If it would increase the deficit for a fiscal year beyond those covered by the reconciliation measure; or
6.If it recommends changes in Social Security.

Any senator may raise a procedural objection to a provision believed to be extraneous, which will then be ruled on by the Presiding Officer, customarily on the advice of the Senate Parliamentarian. A vote of 60 senators is required to overturn the ruling. The Presiding Officer need not necessarily follow the advice of the Parliamentarian, and the Parliamentarian can be replaced by the Senate Majority Leader.[32] The Vice President as President of the Senate can overrule the parliamentarian, but this has not been done since 1975.[33] In 2001, Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott fired Parliamentarian Robert Dove after dissatisfaction with his rulings, replacing him with Alan Frumin.[34]

That rule has turned my life upside down.

I've had to raise my prices, and work weekends for the first time in a decade doing endless amounts of pointless clicking.

I've harassed 90 + year olds with intrusive questions when they're in failing health and have enough money for ten times the years they have remaining.

However this rule was supposed to "protect people" I haven't seen it yet.

Let's not get into the habit of just supporting any new rule government puts out. Some are good and some are bad.
