***RED ALERT*** on Graham-Cassidy #ACA Repeal from Ben Winkler - Managing Dir of MoveOn.org

🚨RED ALERT🚨
THREAD: GOP HEALTH CARE REPEAL IS BACK

Danger real • Activism needed

- timeline
- targets
- how to fight back

McConnell "engaged and serious." White House "all hands on deck." Rs whipping votes this week, already at 49. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/17/obamacare-senate-republicans-repeal-242821

Mon 9/18: GOP leadership confers. (YOU CALL SENATE 202-224-3121)
Tue 9/19: GOP caucus lunch. (CALL PROTEST)
Wed: Senate goes home, Rosh Hash

All Sens home Wed 9/20-Mon 9/25. FIND THEM & PROTEST. Luther Strange (R-AL) away for primary vote thru Tue 9/26. So repeal could go Wed 9/27

McConnell will only sched a vote if knows he has enough Rs to pass: 50. If he does, vote will be btw Wed 9/27 & Fri 9/29. Yom Kippur = 30th.

Senate Parliamentarian won't allow a vote unless there's a CBO score. CBO has been instructed to put all else aside to focus on repeal bill.

DANGER: CBO normally gives score for COST ($) and for COVERAGE (# ppl who lose insurance). But *only $ req'd for Senate vote.*

CBO scores showing tens of millions of Americans will lose insurance coverage has helped derail past repeal votes. R solution: vote w/o #s

GOP hopes to ram through repeal vote before CBO figures out how many people will lose their insurance. Immoral—but also malevolently clever.

Ds pushing CBO to not release fiscal impact without also showing coverage impact. Unclear who'll prevail. Anyway: CBO score week of 25th.

Two more notes about timing. 1st: McCain has said no vote w/o hearings. So Johnson (R-WI) saying he'll hold a farcical "hearing" before 30th

Johnson hearing would be joke: not in relevant committee, not regular process. We'll see if McCain says it's enough. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/13/obamacare-repeal-bill-senate-242665

If GOP believes they have the votes, hearing done, fiscal CBO score in hand, they move to vote sometime 9/27-29... with ZERO hours of debate

ZERO hours of debate? Yes. Budget reconciliation votes require 20h of debate—but technically those hours already happened, back in July.

Explanation. The Senate is officially considering the bill the House passed, the AHCA. Each Trumpcare bill is just an "amendment" to AHCA.

The big votes that failed in July were votes to substitute new repeal bills in place of AHCA. Graham-Cassidy is just another amendment.

single payer is Medicare for all that is not being pushed and they won't bother to protest about the repeal of Obamacare. They will just assume that the Congress is going to pass Medicare for all so they don't need the ACA or Obamacare now. The poorly educated and a lot of other folks really do not understand what is at stake with the Graham-Cassidy amendment. Really sneaky those GOP.

Don't bring it up every time the ACA comes up. Maintain a laser focus on the ACA until after the 30th.

No one on DU was aware of it. I tried to sound the alert all week since the news wasn't saying ANYTHING about it, only the Single Payer issue. I have been and am so frustrated that the media didn't report this earlier. The same goes for the Dems in Congress. THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS! WHY didn't they say anything earlier. If I found out about it from a conference call with CA Congressperson Barbara Lee on Tues night, then they surely knew!

I have been silently screaming and have been calling and am on the list to be ready for quick last minute actions.

THANKS YOU FOR POSTING THIS! I hope it brings about more action since we are out of time!

The senators who were on the fence like McCain and Collins have been bought off I have read. I am not sure about Murkowski. They have been doing it since July 26 when the last vote was taken. They have kept it quiet to run out of time before their calendar expires. McConnell is a shrewd, evil bastard who will do anything for this much needed win. All of this is so the 1% will become richer. They are truly greedy, amoral sociopaths who should be in jail or a mental hospital.
Call Congress, even senators that are not your own. I get addresses from all the states from listing for houses for sale on Zillow. It literally takes me two minutes to get a valid address to give to the phone staffers in case they want to see if I am a real constituent. I got the idea from someone at an anti 45 rally in June and it works like a charm. (202)224-3132. Urge all the people you know to call or write. Please!

It's a dirty bomb, actually. This is the political equivalent of terrorism. It's lulling the enemy into a false sense of complacency and then setting off an explosion that kills the women and the children.

They're going to do this. The time to mobilize is short. We must redouble our efforts. There's no time to waste.

This should be right next to Trump is a traitor above the fold every damn day. By the time we lose the ACA maybe it will get an honorable mention as the last story on a Friday night.

Thanks for the single payer bullshit senate.
