Shout out to Senator Hirono...a REAL hero (unlike McCain).

She went to the Senate to cast a NO vote in July with stage 4 cancer to stop the ACA repeal. McCain did the grandstanding and everyone (except me a a few DUers didn't buy his BS). Now the traitor, Mr. Thumbs Down, is going to vote to repeal the ACA since he was waiting for the AZ governor to give him the green light which he did this AM. McCain was bought by McConnell and the GOP as expected. I am so grateful that I did NOT fall for his selfish BS ego trip and thank him the next day. I DID call Hirono and thanked her.

so basically "you never know" with physical conditions. I do wish her the best. She deserves all the good karma that is coming her way.

The rib was replaced with a 7" metal plate. The month before she had a cancerous kidney removed. And yet she mustered the strength to take to the floor of the Senate because she's worried, not about herself, but about us.

Her speech was amazingly moving. Any Republican with an ounce of compassion would be deeply ashamed. Alas, they are monsters and have no shame.

make him a hero for being a grandstanding GOP puppet and basically harming many Americans unessessarily...which is what he is doing NOW. I am one of the so called "hero's" soon to be victims. How does this current issue make him a hero? He has been willingly bought by the corrupt GOP.

He is NOT a hero in my opinion and 23 million other AMERICANS.

..but you need to caveat "how" he is not a hero. Frankly, you shouldn't even use that term in disparaging him.

If Trump was on the shores of Iwo Jima and took a few bullets, I sure as hell would call him a hero, despite how much I disagreed with his politics and think he should be impeached. Unless of course, he was indicted for treason...

McCain paid a hefty price in a war he should have never been in and has never been a situation that compromised him for treason, so in my view, we have no fucking right to say he isn't a hero. I can sure as hell condemn his politics, but I have no fucking right to say he isn't a hero given what he went through. If you disagree with that, well, not much I can say that you haven't said yourself.

But that is besides the point. Yes, in my opinion he is a hero even though the fake prez says he isn't which is BS. I just do not think that casting a NO vote for the ACA is a "heroic deed" and it is a misplaced term in regards to his actions/vote in the Senate.

I also take an issue with the misplaced term when it is applied to sports and the athletes who are playing a game for a ton of money and celebrity status.

Heroes are those who went into 9/11 or others who will stand up to the police and/or government in spite
of knowing they may end up in jail and face a huge legal and bail debt (like the disabled who were in wheelchairs blocking the GOP offices before the July ACA repeal vote).

The term is too often misplaced and out of context. I was a teacher and we are called heroes yet I did nothing heroic...that's just me and my interpretation I guess. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and I do respect that and the freedom to discuss and sometimes disagree.
