"When protesters were caged in by an abusive police force, the Central Reform Congregation of St. Louis served as a model to all congregations and opened their doors to protect them.
The people of St. Louis took to the streets in response to the acquittal of ex-cop Jason Stockley for the murder of Anthony Lamar Smith. Stockley, when engaged on a police chase of Smith was recorded premeditating his killing of Smith.
Police responded to protests with unhinged violence. Here is a video of at least 40 militarized forces attacking an elderly woman with a shield, then overrunning her and others under them. Rather than administering first aid, they continue to overrun her and eventually force her up for detainment.
The synagogue itself made sure we knew this was no fluke. Theyre here for radical hospitality. The Synagogue is also known for protecting protesters after the Ferguson verdict for the killing of Michael Brown.

And as if we needed to be reminded that our liberation as Jews is tied to the liberation of all Black and brown people on the front lines of white supremacism, the Nazis weighed in too.
This time with a #GastheSynagogue campaign invoking gas chambers in Nazi concentration camps:

(53,936 posts)I am not surprised by the actions of the police, the Nazis, or my Jewish brethren. I am angered by the first two, and proud of the last one. Of course, most people overlook these actions by our people or the attacks on us; they are too busy worrying about other things or finding Jews to blame for not preforming/commenting in ways they (non Jews) expect; it is always more important to find a Jew to chastise then actually show concern for Jewish people.

(53,936 posts)May you have a happy new year, and we all get a reprieve from this dumpster fire disaster currently called "president"!
I am glad to see there was at least this mention of the work Jews did in order to protect others, but it is a fucking shame how so many can't even focus on anti-Semitism without making it about something else or 'tsk-tsk'ing Jews who didn't "speak up" or some such bullshit. Then of course there is the old standby...you know what that is.

(57,349 posts)The last thing we need to do is allow the Trump administration to decide what is and isn't dangerous speech.

(80,708 posts)Of course, with reporters putting their asses on the line and having their right to report on these situations (in the face of deliberate attempts at "managing" the information that gets out by the authorities in question) only protected by clear and repeated 1st Amendment defenses on the part of groups like the ACLU and copwatch---
it would seem obvious that the 1A is a critical bulwark against totalitarianism, and not just some sort of annoying pain in the ass overvalued principle which "forces" people to tolerate things like 'blasphemous' cartoons and nudity on cable tv, HEAVY SIGH HEAVY SIGH

Fuck free speech.
Summary execution for the god-damned Nazis who would say such a thing.
Their continued breathing should not be tolerated.
Send them back to hell now!
