My neighbor

I bought a house several years ago that was a fixer-upper and then some. Over the years my neighbor, a very nice woman a few years older than myself, have formed a comfortable neighborly relationship. Recently, over the course of several months, I've cleared our shared property line of old, scraggly shrubs, trimmed others, planted some and bordered and mulched all of them. She is very happy and appreciative with how it all came out. I've avoided talking about politics over fear of disrupting a good thing. However, due to some local issues, Twitler came up and.... she doesn't like him either. It's hard to explain why it matters so much but I'm just so darn happy she isn't a Trumpster I had to share.

I had a similar experience recently sharing a ride with a woman I know whose religious faith is one that tends to produce politically conservative people. To my pleasant surprise, as we started speaking very cautiously with each other, it turned out we were very much on the same page about everything.

Everyone on the correct side knows what's at stake. There's a strong relief to be had in sharing that tension.

Probably somewhat the same on the other side. As in 'hey, you're Crazy and Racist too! Wow!'

Got a facebook friend request from her and when I checked her posts, I was horrified to see they're all reposts from a local Tea Party group she is apparently in. Ick.

Glad you two are both members of the sane among us. I can totally get why you are relieved and happy.

owns the house but lives down the street in a condo on the water. They use it as a guest house. They had Twitler signs in the yard for quite awhile. Card carrying southern repubs and in general a pain in the neck. Had a bit of a muck up over them painting the side of their garage bright red. It's on the property line so the only way they can access it is to come in my gate. I gave them access to fix a rotten board but told them not to paint it red. They did, we had some words, they painted it back to white. The man is a lawyer and I guess he realized if I wanted to be a real shit I could cut off the eaves that extend over the property line.

I understand why it matters. For me, it would be the alternative that knowing the fact that she did NOT support Trump would mean. I'd never be able to trust someone who voted for Trump; therefore, I wouldn't be able to have much of a relationship.

Now that you and your neighbor have shared this detail, perhaps it means more to both of you that your efforts have been to beautify and enhance. Might mean you both care a bit about our planet!!!

Here's hoping for a long friendship between two great neighbors.

My brother just showed up without confirming his visit. He is a recovering Dotard voter. There is hope. He is cooking in my kitchen. I've hidden the roach, and rat killers.

To feel things out I asked what she thinks about the politics going on. I said that trump is really horrible. She said "yeah, but at least we do not have her." Holy crap!! She admitted he is horrible and still believes he is better!! I did not try to contact her again. It just would not work.

my neighbor has 2 rRump stickers on the back of his truck and he parks it so it is always visible from the street. He will be leaving soon for his trip south and the truck will go in the garage. I kept hoping I would see him scraping those sticker off, but no.

Talk to her more about shared values, like single-payer health care (she's elderly so this should be huge with her), climate change caused by man-made rapacious destruction, white oppression of the party that Donald Trump leads. Get her to engage with her family and friends. Truth be told, you will be giving your neighbor a sense of self-worth that she will welcome with relish!
