We only have an armistice, not a peace treaty.
By definition, an armistice is not a cessation of conflict but a temporary pause.
The US and South Korea stare across at North Korea and the most heavily armed boarder in the world.

You are absolutely correct that the armistice-- a pause in the fighting-- is all that has held the relative peace together.
However, the United States never officially declared war against North Korea. This is from Wikipedia and I added the emphasis:
In the U.S., the war was initially described by President Harry S. Truman as a "police action" as it was an undeclared military action, conducted under the auspices of the United Nations.
Regardless, Trump is an idiot to be poking the hornets' nest.
