Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHow much effort should Democrats put into Alabama Senate race against Roy Moore?
In my opinion, they should try to win the race.
Forty-five percent of the Republicans voted against him in yesterday's primary. Some might assume that all of those may not vote for Moore in the general?
But, in my opinion, it should be run below the radar, unlike the recent race in Georgia. It would be a mistake to bring in the big money and the big names of the Democratic Party. That only gives the Republicans the time to rally their troops against the "liberals".
The Democrats could be very competitive in this race if they play their cards right. Don't flood the media markets with Democratic ads. Let the candidate speak for himself to the people of Alabama and let the national Democratic Party stay out of it. That is my opinion.

(590 posts)Well one goal is winning but a secondary goal is getting every American familiar with Moore's radical views and tarnishing the entire Republican party with it.

(8,811 posts)we really need that seat. Although my hopes are not high at this point. I keep thinking rational Repups might cross the aisle to stick it to Trump, but I doubt there are that many rational GOPers in AL. (I'm originally from GA and have distant family in AL)

Moore will win by 10 points at least.

(82,849 posts)You know, Republican voters who don't like Roy Moore, and would consider voting for a Democrat? It's a very short campaign season and a cheap media market, why not test Republican support? The ubiquitous Republican voters on the teevee sound like they're pretty upset about how things are going in the country. Maybe they're mad enough to consider a party switch? We won't know unless we try.

I like Randr's way of putting it even better.
Obviously Alabama Democrats should take a big one on this and against conservative Alabamans' peculiar penchant for electing people so intensely corrupt and unfit that they even outdo most other Republican states.
I of course couldn't guess how much the DSCC could afford to take away from other races for this long shot. But the Democratic candidate is a good man with a good platform and the Republican "flagrantly unfit for office." I'd really like to see us shine a big national spotlight on this example of the enormous differences between the two parties.
