(82,849 posts)You think rapacious shipping companies should have to suffer when they could be making beaucoup bucks off the suffering of millions? What kind of cold, heartless thinking is that? If those Puerto Ricans didn't want to get stuck with predatory pricing, maybe they should have all bought their own cargo ships!
There. Libertarian knuckleheads can now go about their daily business since their asinine argument has already been posted.

Up until now, it has been casual disregard.
This is an active decision to choose corporate economics over American lives.

HorseSHIT he didn't know about the Russian meddling. HorseSHIT he didn't know 2016 was in the bag. He practically tripped over himself to deny a moderate judge his due appointment.

Trump *explicitly* says he's not allowing more aid ships into Puerto Rico because he's siding with industry.

WASHINGTONLawmakers are calling on the Trump administration to permit foreign-flagged vessels to ship relief supplies from U.S. ports to storm-ravaged Puerto Rico, asking the Department of Homeland Security to waive a law they say will burden the aid effort and increase the cost of critical supplies to islanders.
The 1920 Jones Act, regarded as one of the cornerstones of U.S. maritime policy, requires that goods shipped between U.S. ports be carried by vessels built in the U.S., majority-owned by American firms and crewed by U.S. citizens. The Department of Homeland Security hasnt waived the act for Puerto Rico, which was devastated by Hurricane Maria last week.
....
Based on consultation with other Federal agencies, DHSs current assessment is that there is sufficient numbers of U.S.-flagged vessels to move commodities to Puerto Rico, spokesman David Lapan wrote in an email.
President Donald Trump told reporters Wednesday he was considering waiving the act but hesitated because a lot of people that work in the shipping industry... dont want the Jones Act lifted. ... He added: We have a lot of ships out there right now.
