My trump humping fox news 24/7 cousin is trying to convince me hundreds of thousands of people are not going to show up for NFL games Sunday. He says be prepared for some almost empty because they love trump. His theory started by watching a packers fan burn his season ticket thing, tickets (probably blank paper) on YouTube. Never mind me telling him there is a waiting list until 20imdead
Let's suppose 10 stadiums were empty (laws I can't fathom that) could that play a serious role in some economic way? Stocks?

(45,480 posts)They aren't publicly traded. Most of the NFL's money is made by licensing fees and tv rights. Even if all the stadiums were empty (which they won't be), it wouldn't hurt them in the short term.
Fox News and social media rots people's brains. hopefully, your cousin will wise up.

(47,953 posts)Try making a bet with him. If the Packers play to an empty stadium next time, you buy him a car. If the stadium is more than 1/2 way filled, he buys you one.
I think we both know how that will turn out!

(25,848 posts)let's say by 50%, it would mainly impact the local teams and the local economy somewhat. You'd have to do some research to find out just how much money a game in a particular location actually brings in. The dollar amount might look quite large, but remember that almost all of the jobs at the stadium are part time temporary jobs.
A decline in TV viewership might matter more, because it would impact the ad rates during the games. Even then, I seriously doubt it would affect the economy as a whole.

Give it a month and they will almost all come back. Mainly because they are hypocrites easily manipulated by fake outrage.

(82,849 posts)You and I have a very different opinion about how many people will act in accordance with some demented thing President Trump says. He can't even get Senate Republicans all on the same page, fer crissakes.
Taunt him with an easily ascertained, indisputable fact like that, then laugh at his spluttering discomfiture.

(115,680 posts)Football is a big deal for a lot of people. If the Trump-humpers toss their season tickets (which they'll actually just sell to somebody else unless they are even stupider than they look) they'll soon be damn sorry, especially if their team ends up at the Super Bowl.

(12,265 posts)list, this guy did not burn his tickets, he went online and sold them for 3 times their value if they were any good. Moron.

Reminds me of this moron in a Marine uniform that hadn't fit for years angrily telling a British couple at a Memorial Day outdoor service, "Say the Pledge aloud dammit!" They were really confused at that. I explained it to the retired Marine guy. So, then, he was pissed off at me, too.
Some folks are just pissed off all the time, I guess. Screw 'em!

Short of that there is little that would keep the rabid fans away on a Sunday afternoon.
So as someone suggested above - if he really believes in Donnie the Savior - have him put a little wager on it.
