United States Troop Ship (USTS) Empire State VI prepares to depart from New York, where she serves a training ship, to provide hurricane relief. Initially dispatched to the Florida Keys she is now making for Puerto Rico at top speed. Empire State is 56 years old and steam propelled.
Basically a cargo and troop ship.
Nice to see a ship that is my age still going strong.

(1,303 posts)1. From what I have read today
The head of FEMA called in a General since they were not getting any help higher up. My grandson just graduated from the Coast Guard boot camp last June as a reservist. He was called last week and they requested he go with them to PR. He dropped out of college to do so and left late this weekend.

One of his cousins is career Air Force. She got married when the ban was lifted on DADT. She has been to Iraq 3 times and Afghanistan twice.

I think that ship is assigned to SUNY Maritime (NY).
Bronx NYC.
The ship is a well maintained ship for its age.
