Doug Jones was just on MTP Daily.
He is unabashedly Pro Choice. No mealy mouth equivocation on the issue.
Not big on tax cuts, not against assault weapon ban and strong in favor of background checks.
He is a Democrat I can get behind.

(82,849 posts)Get out the vote. Explain why the Democratic platform is preferable to the snake oil peddled by the Republicans. Talk directly to any gathering where five or more people are present. Chat with local papers, radio stations, and teevee folks. Get your message directly to them without the Fox filter. Volunteers for Jones, make sure you have a voter registration card or five on you at all times.
This will surely be a low participation vote; EVERY vote is going to count, and Democrats will get some bang for their buck.

(58,785 posts)any day. Seriously. He's not excitingly different, shouldn't expect Sanders to go campaign for him, but Doug Jones has a solid mainstream Democrat platform, Alabama version, and Joe Biden'll be there with him next Tuesday.

(12,448 posts)That's enough for me. I'm glad he is also a good DEMOCRAT. Doubt if Sanders and his supporters will get behind him; not "exciting" enough. Just a good Democrat.

(10,823 posts)saying Moore won the primary with only 15% of electorate showing up. I know it's Alabama but good grief Moore is so off-the-rails in his viewpoint--we're living under Sharia Law; the US was meant to be a Christian Nation; all these storms are God's punishment for homosexuality, abortion, etc.; evolution is false/fake news, etc.
Come on. This guy only appeals to those who refuse to embrace modernity and want a theocracy in place.
I would think a solid, sensible Democratic candidate could make a strong case that as a country we won't get anywhere focused on a rearview mirror. A cracked one at that.
I agree with Charles Pierce on Moore's supporters: I'm out of patience with these people and their Dark Age philosophies. They're willing to drag the entire country backwards.
We need to make that they don't.

(574 posts)The 63-year-old lawyer, who has never run for office, has raised less than $300,000 despite securing the Democratic nomination a month ago. Moore raised more than $1.4 million but was outspent by Strange. https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/who-is-doug-jones-and-can-he-defeat-roy-moore-in-conservative-alabama/2017/09/27/c89e2df2-a2fb-11e7-b14f-f41773cd5a14_story.html?utm_term=.8b62b13ae843
Comment hugs are nice, but Jones can't win without funds. I live in Oregon, I get that it will be an uphill battle for Jones, and I just donated $100 to his campaign (plus a $10 tip to ActBlue).

Way ahead of ya, pardner. Nice "checks" left the Stinky/Sparkly bank accounts bound for Puerto Rico and Alabama just today. And not the first one to PR, by the way, which is far more critical than Alabama, I might add. Did you send a few Denarii their way yet?

(574 posts)I have not set money to the Virgin Islands, Florida or Puerto Rico, but it would be good to know what entities folks are donating to to get aide to them.
