Johnson Says Health Care and Food Are 'Privileges'

October 1, 2017 at 11:40 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) told a group of high school students “that they don’t have a right to health care, food and shelter,” WISN reports.

Said Johnson: “I think it’s probably more of a privilege.”

He added: “Do you consider food a right? Do you consider clothing a right? Do you consider shelter a right? What we have as rights is life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Past that point, we have the right to freedom. Past that point is a limited resource that we have to use our opportunities given to us to afford those things.”

Right to life, but not food?

I always knew they were sadists. They want people to suffer. Not themselves, of course...

These rights mean right to health care, food, shelter and a basic standard of living that allows a person to pursue their happiness.

Many Republicans/conservatives think exactly the same way -- that you don't deserve food, health care, shelter, etc., unless you can afford to pay for them yourself. And if you can't -- you should have thought of that before you decided to be such a loser!

I think they should have the honesty to say so, rather than hiding behind mealy-mouth phrases that they don't mean, or running away from reporters. And then people can decide if this is what they want to vote for.

(America has gotten mean. Or maybe it always was, and I just didn't know it.)

10. Sen Ron Johnson R-WI) vs Jesus Christ
Sun Oct 1, 2017, 01:37 PM

Ron Johnson, elected to Senate in fateful 2010-11 election cycle immediately following passage of comprehensive health care legislation)

Elected to US Senate in 2011 over Sen. Russ Feingold, long term Democratic senator (1993-2011)
Johnson was and is supported by Tea Party and is a member of the Lutheran Evangelical Synod

Johnson sees the Declaration of Independence as an authoritative document superseding the social gospel of Jesus Christ as set forth in the New Testament of the Bible.

The Declaration of Independence gives each of us the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
It does not include healthcare, food, and shelter as a right

Maybe some freedoms are included as rights but world resources are limited and if other individuals, in the course of pursuing their happiness, gather up all the resources, or if their ancestors had done the resource-gathering and willed to their progeny all the resources, you must go without unless they decide to dole some resources out to you as a privilege.

Thank you Sen. Johnson for providing us with insight into your belief system.

I said, "Yeah, but we join in a social contract so that we can create a list of things, that we all work together for, to provide for everyone. Let's start with roads."

Zip! It goes right over their head.
