I cannot for the life of me see any talent. SNL could have any musician in the world and they give a time slot to him?

(54,770 posts)Good enough for me. Didn't see the show last night, but if he was crummy, might have been having a bad day.

(47,487 posts)I can't stand the type of music Jay-Z does.
Doesn't mean he sucks. Just means I don't like it.
If you just don't like that kind of music, fine, you don't like it.
But you say he has no talent.
So, of the people who do the same kind of music as Jay-Z does, who do you think has talent?

(844 posts)From someone who appreciates and has written and preformed hip-hop I do feel qualified to say this - though I also know that the show last night wasn't really a showcase of that in any way either. Dude just stood there and rapped from the one and half tracks I saw. He didn't put the type of energy a lot of people do.
He does have talent , and heart. I was a huge fan of Big L ; who was one of his best friends coming up in the business and L passed early from gun violence. For a long time I was cold on J for feeling like he got huge fame off of Big L's flow ( what I feel his greatest strength) but I would say that I came to greatly respect what he has done in hip-hop. Some classic albums years ago. I think though that one of his better talents is in the marketing of music and that has gained him a lot in the wider world. Hell, dude moved into sports representation like a badass and picked up money clients on day one. And he landed Beyoncé

(7,802 posts)My father called rock "long-hair music," for example. Since I think that the younger generation has a heck of a lot of good, I won't put down music or other entertainment that they like. There must be something to it even if it does nothing for me. We're just not the target audience, fellow boomers!
