If you define a 'mass shooting' as one guy with a gun slaughtering lots of innocent people...when was there ever a worse one? ANYWHERE?
Was there some guy in 1946 who managed to shoot 560 people with his WWII surplus M1?
Did some disgruntled Confederate soldier shoot 560 people with his cap-and-ball revolver in 1866?
Did some guy in a tricorn hat manage to ram-load his black powder musket 560 times in 10 minutes in 1790?
No. Every year we're setting new records for the worst mass shootings IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. And it's not because people are inherently more violent than they use to be. It's because of the killing technology that they now have access to.
Fox News just had a psychiatrist on who said "We've seen an increase in this kind of mass shooting over the past decade...which coincides perfectly with...(wait for it)....the rise of social media."
Yeah, that's right Dr. Dickhead. The sudden uptick in mass shootings over the past decade has everything to do with social media, and nothing to do with the expiry of the assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004.

(5,953 posts)19th century, which is exactly why I put that at the top. Didn't help, apparently. But there is a difference between genocide, mass murder, and a mass shooting. There are plenty of examples of the first two, but we're talking here about the last one. Mass shooting usually defined as one person with a gun killing ten or more people.

(9,766 posts)560 people were not shot. 560 people were injured, many trying to get away. We don't know yet how many of the injured were shot.
