I have an online friend from Puerto Rico who is looking for a host family for herself and her daughter. She is a super sweet lady. If I didn't have such a small place and on top of that work from home for a rather secretive company, I would do it myself. I'm just looking for resources to provide her. This is a temporary thing until she can either go back to PR (that is not looking so good right now, thanks to our awful president), or until she can find a place and work here on the mainland.
Any links would be much appreciated. I've been searching, but have come up empty so far. Thanks in advance, kind DUers!
Edited to add: If worse comes to worse, I will bring her to live with me, but I don't want her to go from the frying pan into the fire. There's just not enough space in my place for 2 more people, but I will make it work if necessary. I just thought I'd try to find a better place for her.

(18,672 posts)I appreciate your willing to volunteer. I will find out more details from her. She has to find the available wi-fi on the island before I hear from her again.

I'd just like to add in that many will move to the mainland just as any of us would without any special assistance and that some will probably just need a bit of help, no sponsor.
We offered our vacation mobile home to a church group after Harvey, but with Irma coming that was cancelled big time. It's literally about 4' above sea level on an estuary just off Tampa Bay. Now that it has miraculously survived intact (and I'm not at all a believer in unicorns or religion and virtually never use that word), we're offering it once again to a church that our neighbors down there belong to. The church's committee will identify a family who can use it as a temporary home while they get on their feet.
And that's my suggestion for people in general. That it's very easy to offer assistance through churches or other organizations with experience in relief efforts and lists of people who need help.
