What about a special fund drive to increase computer capacity for DU searches?

I'm not able to search across more than a day, and even then, I can't include replies. What if DU (senior moment on the guy's name) had a one time/one purpose fund drive for more computer power?? I know I'd donate.

I don't have a problem searching specific time-ranges, replies and/or whatnot on DU.

3. Are you using Advanced Search - up in the right hand corner?

That works for me if I'm looking for anything here. And the default time going back is exactly one month. The only "glitch" I've found is if you accidentally type in the wrong thing, you have to start over, you can't just edit your original search.

You'll notice no results because it's a huge search over several years. It will take a few minutes (maybe) to do that kind of search. Try doing it that way, tailored to what you want from the forum or group you want.

6. And it's also true if the parameters are too broad, it'll only list so many

So you have to be more specific.

Searches should not be timing out. Sometimes you do have to wait a minute or so for it to complete. This is a pretty busy site so the server(s) stay pretty busy.

18. I usually just leave the 30 day default parameter in place

Even though, on MIRT, I was searching for someone who just joined 5 minutes ago. If it timed out, I generally found I'd made a typo. If it persists, I agree that you should run this by Skinner. He may be aware of a particular "glitch" that you're encountering.

And I just served two terms on MIRT so I used it a lot. Double check your parameters. steve2470 gives a good example. I try to be as specific as possible. Usually when it doesn't work for me it's because I typed in something wrong.

.... in OP subjects or authors across more than one day. And nothing in authors or subjects for replies. Always times out.

17. If you experiment with Google's Advanced Search form,

you'll find that you can narrow down a search pretty quickly by imposing your own rules on it. There are shortcuts for this type of search, but it's easier for many people to use the advanced search form at this link:

https://www.google.com/advanced_search

Additionally, Google allows many operators and parameters to be used in searches. You add parameters to your search in Google's search box. You can learn about them here:

https://moz.com/learn/seo/search-operators

You can control Google searches in almost endless ways, and search experts use these parameters to produce results that are exactly what is wanted.
