I'm not able to search across more than a day, and even then, I can't include replies. What if DU (senior moment on the guy's name) had a one time/one purpose fund drive for more computer power?? I know I'd donate.

(37,999 posts)I don't have a problem searching specific time-ranges, replies and/or whatnot on DU.

(205,173 posts)That works for me if I'm looking for anything here. And the default time going back is exactly one month. The only "glitch" I've found is if you accidentally type in the wrong thing, you have to start over, you can't just edit your original search.

(37,457 posts)You'll notice no results because it's a huge search over several years. It will take a few minutes (maybe) to do that kind of search. Try doing it that way, tailored to what you want from the forum or group you want.

(37,457 posts)Searches should not be timing out. Sometimes you do have to wait a minute or so for it to complete. This is a pretty busy site so the server(s) stay pretty busy.

(205,173 posts)Even though, on MIRT, I was searching for someone who just joined 5 minutes ago. If it timed out, I generally found I'd made a typo. If it persists, I agree that you should run this by Skinner. He may be aware of a particular "glitch" that you're encountering.

(205,173 posts)And I just served two terms on MIRT so I used it a lot. Double check your parameters. steve2470 gives a good example. I try to be as specific as possible. Usually when it doesn't work for me it's because I typed in something wrong.

(146,286 posts)you'll find that you can narrow down a search pretty quickly by imposing your own rules on it. There are shortcuts for this type of search, but it's easier for many people to use the advanced search form at this link:
https://www.google.com/advanced_search
Additionally, Google allows many operators and parameters to be used in searches. You add parameters to your search in Google's search box. You can learn about them here:
https://moz.com/learn/seo/search-operators
You can control Google searches in almost endless ways, and search experts use these parameters to produce results that are exactly what is wanted.
