The Enormous Emotional Toll of Trumpism (Joy-Ann Reid)

The Enormous Emotional Toll of Trumpism
Every day it’s something. Or 10 somethings. Can we really live with three more years of this, let alone seven?
Joy-Ann Reid 10.07.17 10:33 AM ET

At a certain point, the distaste becomes exhaustion. Donald Trump’s presence in our national life has been alternately infuriating, embarrassing, revolting, gross and bizarre. His non-stop assaults on our political norms are testing our capacity to sustain constant outrage without giving in to despair.

I meet victims of Trump fatigue everywhere. They stop me in airports and restaurants and on the street and ask how long we’ll have to put up with this madness – when will Bob Mueller finally bring him down, and how much more can our systems bend before they break.

Joy-Ann Reid is a treasure. This should be required reading for our leaders who could rid us of this menace. Yes, we’re all tired, worn to a nub and ready to just turn away from all of it. But underneath our apathy is a simmering rage. At some point the rage will boil over and we will fight back. There are leaders among us who will harness the rage and channel it into a machine to fight against the cancer upon us. We will not go gentle into the good night.

Know that tRump! And every one of his enablers. We are looking at you and will come after you. The thing that made America possible will power us. Never forget that.

But by and large it was without merit. They viewed the things happening as utter evil when it was just basic governance for the most part. But when their guys are largely dismantling everything and actively making it more unsafe... nary a peep.
