Last weekend, I wasn't feeling great. By Monday evening I was in a full-blown gallbladder attack. Ok, been thru this before, usually goes away and my insurance plan has a high deductible, so...by Tuesday afternoon we were calling the insurance nurse, then the doctor's office. An hour later, off to the doctor, but were told to turn around and go back up the street to the hospital ER. No, the old lady isn't having a heart attack (the two can be mistaken for the other) and off to the bigger hospital for surgery. By this time I feel like I want to crawl out of my skin and go hide somewhere.
Turns out the gallbladder was infected and the stones were in the top 97th percentile for size--normal hour surgery turned into two and a half hours. And I have a couple of trophies. Recovery was mostly nomitive--I stayed an extra night because I didn't feel ready to go home and I think I'm better for it--and came home yesterday. It will be a couple of weeks before I can lift anything much heavier than my purse, but I can go back to life and am doing much better. Part of that is because I have Obamacare.
Hubby lost his day job back when the economy cratered and we had to go without insurance for several years. Then the ACA came along. It's expensive, but affordable; we're not old enough for Medicare, too well-off for Medicaid (not a complaint) but we're the kind who could be financially wrecked by big medical bills. We won't be.
Thank you, Obama. For the bottom of my heart, thank you.
