"SNIP............
Donald Trump was enraged when he found out that it is illegal for US companies to pay bribes to heads of foreign governments.
There was an enlightening tidbit in The New Yorkers profile of Sec. of State Rex Tillerson, In February, a few weeks after Tillerson was confirmed by the Senate, he visited the Oval Office to introduce the President to a potential deputy, but Trump had something else on his mind. He began fulminating about federal laws that prohibit American businesses from bribing officials overseas; the businesses, he said, were being unfairly penalized.
The exchange between Trump and Tillerson illustrates that the President Of The United States wants to encourage corruption. Trump has no ethical or moral compass. He doesnt see why it is illegal for US companies to be handing out bribes.
It is unfathomable that a president is raging because his country cant be more corrupt. Trumps attitude on the issue should also perk up the ears of the Special Counsel as a businessman president who doesnt think it is wrong to pay bribes to heads of foreign governments has probably broken the law and paid bribes himself.

(118,632 posts)It ruins the lives of thousands like some horrible disease. Of course rich people like Trump would like bribes. Easier to get richer as there is less competition when you have to pay to play. Meanwhile small business people can't get a foothold in business and it ruins the economy.

How the Supreme Court gets corruption totally wrong
Members of Congress spend the majority of their time fundraising from wealthy donors, learning the smallest details about donors' lives at the expense of learning about the policy details most relevant to their legislative work. When they're not fundraising, members may be anxious about meeting their fundraising quotas set by the national committees, or worried about offending the secret donors to powerful super PACs. This lurking fear undoubtedly shapes policy decisions, lest a wrong move trigger a deluge of attack ads from special interests.
The Supreme Court has said that none of this is corrupt or corrupting. That defies law, history and logic.

Enacted back in a time when corrupt business practices were considered a very bad thing, thus it has teeth. Violators can be fined and put in prison. Plus!...corporations cannot pay the fines of individuals. They have to pay the fines out of their own pockets. If he didn't know about something that's been on the books since the late 70's, Trump company's legal council royally sucks, considering how much business they do internationally.
Probably safe to assume Muller and company are already covering that ground.

(37,648 posts)He can't go off on a fishing expedition or file charges for something unrelated. Say, if they found out he stole a car. If that's not related to obstruction or Russia collusion, Mueller can't do anything about it, except maybe report it to another authority to investigate.
Anything else he investigates has to be reasonably related to the purposes of his investigation.
