(31,261 posts)A local radio station is doing an all night tribute to him today. Why do the good ones die young?

(28,117 posts)There's a lump in my throat and I'm not even a Gator fan. But this was amazing.
Before reading link, sent the link to friend with the word: Powerful. 😥
We're going to miss him.

(2,679 posts)Back in ancient times, well the 1980's. It was kind of a shrine when I went to UF. Once I remember going to this bar and the fact that Petty once played there was that place's claim to fame.
Petty was from Gainesville.
Glad UF did that. Now if they could have just won the game But then again maybe this was more fitting. The Gators sucked and lost often when Petty was in Gainesville. It wasn't till he was rich and famous musician and left when the Gators finally started winning. BTW the Gators sucking had nothing to do with Petty. We just couldn't win. And if we did we were probably on probation so it didn't count anyway. We even made a drink to help us win. The drink is great but we sucked until the 90's. I knew this yet I still choose to go there and march in the band for 4 years.
