(6,251 posts)There are two current Republican office holders who have thrown their hats in the ring -- Attorney General Patrick Morrissey and Congressman Evan Jenkins. And rumor has it that mining mogul and convicted felon Don Blankenship, former chairman and CEO of Massey Energy, is interested in the job as well. A federal grand jury indicted Blankenship on November 13, 2014, for conspiracy to violate mandatory federal mine safety and health standards, conspiracy to impede federal mine safety officials, making false statements to the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as securities fraud. He served a year in prison and paid a $250,000 fine. He's been running anti-Manchin ads, and a lot of those in the know believe that he will run for the Senate as well.
