A nurse at work from Puerto Rico, with family there, happens to be a staunch right winger and thinks everyone who comes in to the ER with Medicaid is a free loader and just unwilling to work hard enough in life.

Regarding the mess in PR since Maria, she is basically parroting the Trumpian argument of laziness in Puerto Rican residents, stating that the islanders just stay on "island time" and haven't tried to pull together to help their neighbors clear roads so that resources can be moved internally.

She has gone down there with supplies and to help her family, but says that there are plenty of people who can't be bothered to help out, and that it is the public utility folks work ethic (or lack thereof) who really are a big part of the problem.

I generally find this hard to believe, and tend to think she sees through tinted glasses, exaggerating the blame the victim mindset, etc., but I did find it strange that she was so quick to criticize, and hold to that right wing party line.

Like my experience trying to talk to my Trump supporting brother in N.C. last week, no amount of facts will make these people change their mind...
