Another fracking quake:

YOUNGSTOWN

The small earthquake that shook Youngstown on Christmas Eve had a depth shallower than originally reported, prompting the Ohio Department of Natural Resources on Friday to order D&L Energy Inc. to cease operations at a nearby brine-injection well.

The magnitude 2.5 earthquake, officially the 10th since March 17 to occur within two miles of the brine-injection well on Ohio Works Drive, had a depth of 11,000 feet, said Andy Ware, deputy director at ODNR. It was the shallowest depth of any of the quakes.

That is only about 2,000 feet below the bottom of the D&L injection well, which ceased operations as of 5 p.m. Friday.

The state suspects that brine has entered the nearly impermeable Precambrian formation underground. That formation is more than 9,000 feet below the ground.

Too little, too late?

4.0 earthquake rocks Ohio, Pennsylvania

According to the USGS (United States Geological Survey), the earthquake happened at 3:05 p.m at the epicenter at a 4.3 magnitude.

The earthquake happened about 3.1 miles from the surface and was described as "poorly constrained."

The quake could be felt as far away as Cleveland (55 miles), Columbus (145 miles), and parts of Pennsylvania.

(if my memory is correct) for this area. And this area is not a place where we ever heard of earthquakes before. All of these quakes have happened near the same location. Interesting tidbit---there is an injection well for fracking brine in that same area. Sadly, there are several other injection wells being put in around here. But there is "no proof" that there is any connection.

With that said, where the hell was I? Are there some people who just do not feel quakes as well as others? I was at work when one hit and everyone in the office was in an uproar about what had happened---and I was blissfully ignorant about what they were talking about. Oh well, I guess I was at an afternoon party, getting drunk....that must explain it.
