Spanish-American chef and restauranteur José Andrés on Friday accused the federal government of not doing enough to help the recovery efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
The Washington-based Andrés, whom President Trump sued when he backed out of a plan to open a restaurant in Trump's D.C. hotel, took issue with a government focus on feeding responders instead of suffering Puerto Ricans.

Andres, whose non-profit disaster relief organization "World Central Kitchen" has reportedly served over 350,000 meals to islanders struck by the disaster, as food and water on Puerto Rico remain scarce after the storm.
He previously called the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the agency leading the government's response efforts, saying that its base of operations there is "the most inefficient place on earth."

Chef Andrés is a hero.

(12,503 posts)The last time FEMA was in Puerto Rico for a storm was for hurricane Georges in 1998. On the 3rd day of my 2 week business trip in San Juan, the rental car company called me to "order" me to return my mini-van back to the San Juan airport drop-off lot.
FEMA has the power to move into town and control the disposition of vehicle rentals, and they wanted ALL the island's mini-vans "so they will have room to spread out their road maps", I was told. I objected, needing the larger vehicle for a work crew, but had no choice because the Feds can do whatever they want when they want it, and the threat to contact my employer sealed the deal for them.
Um okay.
I got a tiny Nissan something in exchange.

(23,091 posts)drumpf and his cronies aren't just leaving the people of PR hungry and thirsty, they are deliberately not helping with critical issues like clearing roads and getting power back to at least the hospitals. They are KILLING the people of PR, on purpose, and out of pure racism, greed and spite. They don't want to spend $ because they want it for themselves through huge tax cuts for rich.
