Trump and his entire crew are intentionally wrecking the government

They’re all trying to tear it down because they intend to rule over and sell off the ruins and line their own pockets with what they can get.

Welcome to the Age of the Trump Fire Sale.

Establishment GOPrs won’t stop him either, even after it’s too late. They’re literally sitting on their hands and allowing him to do this because they’re weak and cowardly. Ryan and McConnell both know that Trump can’t salvage their agenda, but they’re refusing to act anyway.

The only people who can stop this debacle are the voters. If they can give the Democrats congressional control in the next midterms and the White House in the next general, only then will we be able to save all of our collective asses.

Until then, hold on to your butts, because it’s going to be an express elevator ride to hell for us all.

FDT.

And most people here on DU also.

What is not to understand about: "The only legitimate purpose of government is protection of person and property?"

For those who don't recognize them, those are rare public words of the single most powerful person in America these days, excepting foreign affairs, and he's not that buffoon in the White House who's largely being jerked around by this guy and others in his seditious alliance -- the hundreds of ultraconservative, anti-tax, antiregulation metamillionaires allied with him to take control of our country and dismantle most of our institutions.

They have, notably, also allied with the extremist Christian reconstructionist movement, and there is a great deal of overlap in ideologies, as exemplified by the VP they pushed on Trump -- Pence. Almost all of Rump's other appointments were also chosen and maneuvered into position by these conspiracists, including, of course, Gorsuch.

They're by far not our big problem, and you can't know who to fight and how if you can't identify your enemies.

The 40-year sabotage of our national belief in our nation, the insidious implants of mindless distrust of all elected officials and all policies is a product of that vast right-wing conspiracy Hillary once spoke of. It was characterized by hostile media as merely her paranoia and eagerness to make excuses, but it is very real and committed to moving our nation permanently right, to repealing most taxes and to dismantling almost all government functions. Christian reconstructionists are allied with them, for now, to bring about a permanent transfer power from we the people to ruling classes operating behind a fake Democracy, much as Iran's do.

Russia's small potatoes compared to our own seditionists.

Hortensis, I'm not a very smart old man, but I've seen this coming since the Nixon days. As you know, they've been building this colossal machine for many years, poured billions into it, and they've been patient. I knew we were in deep shit when the religious right exposed itself.

Inequality may be our savior, along with some fake Bible-thumping, LOL.

The religious right's alliance with conservative business plutocrats scares me bad also, not least because people don't realize it's happening.

I was a young mother with tiny children during the Nixon scandal. It was ugly, sometimes fascinating, but I seldom did more than scan the headlines in the L.A. Times over breakfast. Aside from the usual worry about the "military-industrial complex," I was mostly clueless about more occult right-wing trends.

I only began to really see it with the end of the cold war. All of a sudden the kind of conservatives who were sure we had to destroy Russia before they got us had that taken away and badly needed a new threat to fear. Instead of a foreign enemy, though, they were helped to find it inside America and turned virulently on the left, the Democrats, the dirty radical liberals. New right wing media went after the Clintons with a hugely funded hateful, virulent dishonesty that was unprecedented. Email brought new vicious lies every week.

My husband belonged to a sportsmans club that had lots of conservatives, and as a group they turned hostile and aggressive when politics were discussed. Like if we tried to discuss the emails they chortled over. Our next-door, close friends of over two decades the same, so that we became estranged. We lost another pair of old friends in a flash when they attacked while we were playing cards. So it was then that I started reading and seriously looking for answers as to what was happening on the right.

Even then I believed enough of them, those who were good people in other aspects of their lives, would finally reach lines they wouldn't cross. I still thought/hoped for that in 2016. No longer.

Well, it's coming to a head now. Of course, I thought it was in 2016. But this time hopefully they feel the pain themselves and enough of them have the sense to back away from it.

They're cheering him on. They've been dying for the gov't to fail to prove that big gov't is BAD BAD BAD! for years and years, now. That whole gov't that can be drowned in a bathtub thing, remember? It's practically Paul Ryan's wet dream. They've put all of the most incompetent and ill-suited people into critical roles just to prove that those roles are prone to failure. The corporations want less gov't so that there will be less regulation so that they can frack and pollute and plunder and loot as much as they like with no oversight. Give them a bunch of optional self-policed guidelines and they'll happily sign off on all of them, then completely ignore them the second there is no one watching.

Remember his chilling words about the government? Well, it's been a few decades, but his legacy remains.

I think it's disingenuous to think that Trump is anything but an OUTCOME. The real problem began in the late 70's, when the forces of free market capitalism, in the guise of Thatcher and Reagan, colluded and collided with the forces of right-wing religion and married the two. The Ayatollah was part of it, too.

1979 was a seminal year.

This illegitimate administration was installed with significant help from a hostile foreign power.
The head of this administration is an apparent mentally deficient individual surrounded by sycophants and other intellectually challenged ideologues.
A known anarchist, Steven Bannon, is a major adviser to this administration.
We are threatened militarily, judicially, and economically. The United States Justice Department is led by a known racist and probable white supremacist.
The republicans actually stole a Supreme Court seat to install a unqualified right wing ideologue.
The Secretary of the Treasury is a hedge fund grifter and a leading party in the near financial collapse of the country in the days prior to President Obama's administration.
What else do Americans need to know about these people - these enemies of our country?
We are watching the final destruction of the ideals of American democracy - not that they were ever fully implemented to begin with.
