I want it to happen sooner than later. Trump was handed a good economy from Obama. He is taking all the credit. Nothing would hurt Trump and the republicans more than an economic crash. It's going to happen, lets get it over with. I can't believe I am saying this but thats how I feel.

(34,661 posts)with the death of defined Pensions,we now have a 401k system that is news driven and manipulated by the High Speed Traders and Corrupt Money Center Banks. With this last weeks Social Safety Net destruction by Trump, there is going to be a Health Care sell off. Unemployment is increasing daily as people continue to protect what they have by not spending needlessly.
The GOP has for several years, wanted to punish the remainder of the middle Class workers for their Democratic Voting trends. At the same time brutalizing the working poor. The proof being, listen carefully to the Statements coming from Paul Ryan and other Libertarian leaning Congress People. Their sound bites for the Media never flesh out their true statements. Read their full print out statements.

(115,610 posts)I think there is a stock bubble and it might burst, so anybody with investments in stock, especially in retirement products, probably should think about moving things around. But wishing a crash to happen is just cruel.

(46,574 posts)The middle class got hit hard with the last crash, losing a big chunk of house value and retirement accounts, impacting day to day functioning.
The wealthy didn't have to worry about putting food on the table, proving housing, seeking medical care, etc. They have enough wealth to insulate themselves from harsh realities.
And I believe that the big players knew about the last crash in advance, and were able to sell high and buy low.
So they made out like the bandits they are.

(52,126 posts)i get your point, but sadly it assumes that something terrible will "wake up" the media and enough of donnie's donors and supporters.
well, that may be true, but it would be short-lived. remember the whole financial crisis that shrub gave us? republicans were such a terrible brand that the democratic primary became the big big thing because people figured the general election was a foregone conclusion. we won, and made history in the process, but the media only got worse, republicans in congress became even more horrible, and we wound up with benedict donnie.
so even if the retirement of millions is destroyed, ok, we might get rid of donnie, but then what? the media will still be horrible, republicans will be worse than ever, and the koch brothers and the waltons will just spend more to get their way.
personally, i think the backlash will be strong enough already. we already have a good shot at regaining the house in 2018, and if things continue like this, we're almost guaranteed to win the white house and the senate in 2020.
so we're on track to get our best case scenario politically speaking. i don't think we need to root for more damage, nor do i think it's productive even from a cold, calculating political point of view.

(4,379 posts)I know it's not right to feel this way but I believe it's going to happen somewhere down the road. The last time it happened Bush was walking out the door and he handed an economic collapse to Obama. Obama had to deal with it.
I don't want that to happen again.
Lets be honest, do you think we are all not going to pay a price for the Trump nightmare. We are all going to get hurt. How can this end well?
shockey80
(4,379 posts)When he does not like something he tells people to fix it. If they don't he wrecks it and then tells you, now you have to fix it. I believe he will do this with NAFTA and other trade agreements. Trump is turning the world against us. He is tearing things apart. Sooner or later we must pay a price for this. This is so fucking bizarre.
I do not want to live through an economic collapse, I just have a deep feeling of dread, of what is coming our way. I don't want to wait years for it to happen.

(5,751 posts)health care will be for the rich only. Lots of rural hospitals will close, and Trump voters will be up the creek without a paddle, as they say. I have a nephew with type 1 diabetes who works as an Uber driver. He has no idea what to do when his insurance runs out, which will happen in about 2 years. One trip to the hospital would bankrupt him, and he can't afford his medications without insurance. He can't get medicaid either because he's not quite poor enough.

(53,016 posts)Many people are hurt when that happens. Union and teacher retirement funds, capital for small business and home equity loans. Mortgages. Whenever shit happens, it's always the lower incomes that bear the brunt of it.
Also, crashes don't phase them. They just pretend the Democrats did it. They blamed the 2008 crash on Obama, and their voters are so stupid they went along with it. Christ, they blamed the Iraq War and Katrina on Obama.

(14,167 posts)This bull market is likely unsustainable. We're probably due for some serious correction.
However, I think what some members here are expressing is that it's hard to wish for your property value to tank or for your retirement funds to diminish when the middle class has nothing left to fall back on. Not to mention the poor people who work for publicly traded companies that don't receive a golden parachute when their company goes belly-up.
2008 was a huge blow for me -- I had to sell my house at a loss, but I was lucky. There are people who lost everything, who killed themselves in the face of crushing debt, who suffered greatly because of Bush's incompetence. And, as usual, most wealthy people were diversified enough and capitalized enough that the recession didn't significantly impact their way of life.
We're usually the ones that get hurt. Would it be worth it to take down Trump? That's a tough question.
