I think it is a safe bet to assume that each and every person who contributes to this board has experienced some devastating hardship or tragedy. It might be one or a combination of any of the following:
A chronic physical illness, mental illness, death of a family member, death of a beloved pet, caring for an ill family member, a bad accident, physical abuse, emotional abuse, devastating financial hardships, homelessness, battle wounds.
Some of us come through these hardships bitter and damaged, some of us come through a better and more empathetic human being. In most cases, we make it through. We fight and claw and do what we have to do in order to survive.
And then along comes Trump.
I do not know what Trump has been through personally. Maybe he was abused by his father. I know his brother died. Whatever the case, I know that he had the resources that we didn't. These resources would have helped him to cope with any hardship that fell upon him. Because of this, he cannot relate at all to the problems of others. He simply has no idea about what people go through.
Because of misguided and easily fooled voters, he is now President of the United States. He is taking a wrecking ball to all that we hold dear, and all that we need to continue to survive. Each of us have been through our own personal hell, and now we have a clueless person steering our ship after we have fought to survive. After spending our lives struggling to do the right thing in life...and fighting, and crying, and fighting some more...along comes Trump.
We are alone in a room with a deranged 9 year old. He has a loaded shotgun, and he doesn't care about us. He will look at us, tell us how much he cares, and then blow our fucking brains out. Because he can.
He has diminished our struggles as human beings.

(36,926 posts)There is some evidence that sociopaths are born that way, but certainly a bad childhood can contribute to onset and severity of symptoms. And, of course, then we have to look at where he got those genes, meaning his parents. I'm not sure of the details, but have heard that his dad was a pretty big scum bag himself. It's always hard to untangle these issues, but twin studies have helped.
