Mangas Coloradas, Chiefs Cornstalk, Seattle and other Native American Chiefs

One of many overlooked aspects of Native American history is the long list of exceptional men who led various tribes as chiefs or war leaders. Just as noble and brave as anyone on the Mexican, British, or American sides, many of them have been swept into the dustbin of history.

A top 10 list :

I once read that Oil City, PA, was formerly named Cornplanter. Apparently that's not quite correct -- Cornplanter Township is still there, right next door to Oil City.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornplanter was apparently well-liked by some whites, particuarly Quakers. He was given three grants of land by the US gov't, only one of which -- the Corplanter Tract -- he kept. The Commonwealth of PA later erected a monument to him. There's also a wilderness area, a forest, and a bridge bearing his name.
