Maybe she had some cathartic moment. She was a shrill shill as Communications Director for George W. Bush, be she seems to have found a new mojo in her gig on MSNBC. She's either a total fraud, like Chris Matthews, or she had a Come To Jesus moment. Whatever. I hate to say it, but she's kind of a bright spot on MSNBC.

(31,464 posts)But I found her very shrill when I heard her defending W's war. Probably more the words than the person.

(26,047 posts)That was actually why I asked. I consider it pretty genedered, so was double checking what the OP meant.

(63,893 posts)I think she did it to get a word in edgewise. Now she has a show of her own so she is more measured.

(6,262 posts)She is pretty level headed for a Republican. And she is a traditional Republican as far as I can tell. But do like her and Steve Schmidt as well.
She was so disgusted by Palin that she chose to not vote in the 2008 election.

but they've retained some integrity.

(90,565 posts)There are damn few Republicans left I could put in this category, and the worse the GOP becomes, the more Dems get pushed into a corner and become the same way. It's awful.
Yes, I believe we are right to fight back: I've despised every Republican president since Richard Nixon. In the early years of DU, I did research on the VRWC and the Religious Right that gave me nightmares.
But, using my evangelical Republican next door neighbor as a touchstone, I have tried to never lose sight of the humanity of the other side. I refuse to discuss either politics or religion with him, but he is such a good man.
And, when I find conservatives/old-style Republicans like Wallace and Schmidt I feel I could actually have an intelligent exchange of ideas with, I want to praise them and encourage their like. We need them.

(21,999 posts)I feel similarly regarding Steve Schmidt. Although they both worked for the McCain/Palin campaign, they seem to have been shocked back to reality when they saw the beast that is the base of the modern Republican party.
While I don't think they will be voting for Democratic candidates, they aren't as hard-core partisan as are far too many Republicans.

(7,581 posts)She is brutal on Trump. I much prefer her show over Jake Tapper's; Jake is always playing both sides of the fence and has horrid guests.
I cheer Nicole on every day!

(4,238 posts)I may have disagreed with them, but if the portrayals were accurate (and they appear to be so) then these were the kind of republicans we could once reason with: people who may disagree on policies, but are at least rationale and sane.
