Michael Bennett to continue to sit during anthem, criticizes Jerry Jones

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stated again on Wednesday that he'd prefer his players to stand during the national anthem but as of now, no league mandate is coming down to require players to do as such.

Mandate or no mandate, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett plans to return to his seat during the anthem on Sundays.
"I plan on sitting down. Like I said, I continue to do what I've been doing and the consequences are the consequences I guess," Bennett said on Wednesday.

Bennett has sat during the anthem during the majority of the preseason and regular season to demonstrate against racial inequality; however, in the team's previous game, he did stand and instead interlocked arms with the rest of his defensive line in a show of respect to the victims in the Las Vegas mass shooting the Monday prior to their game.

But, now the veteran defensive end has made it clear that he'll sit again and also addressed, rather pointedly, the owners who've required their teams to stand, specifically Jerry Jones who said any players who sit during the anthem will not play.

"If teams don't want guys to play, even if you think about what Jerry Jones said, it's crazy," Bennett continued. "It's inconsiderate of a person being a human being. To me, I just thought it reminded me of the Dred Scott case. You're property; so you don't have the ability to be a person first. And I think in this generation that sends the wrong message to young kids and young people across the world -- that your employer doesn't see you as a human being; they see you as a piece of property. And if that's the case, then I don't get it."
