(31,811 posts)We can't trust polls anymore.
It's all about assuming we are going to 'lose' if we don't have hands at the buttons on election day.
That's the approach we take in NJ - it's doom and gloom, we can only win by being relentless, and take NOTHING for granted.
Let's not get cocky until we are done with our work. We are just getting started here.

(31,811 posts)We have 2.5 weeks to go and there's a lot that can happen in that time.
Menendez, a major storm, activity from Fed Gov surrounding taxes - that's just three.
We can't rest on our laurels and pretend that it's in the bag.
Understand - what is at stake in NJ. When you hear/read Gerrymander -
THIS IS THE YEAR. We must be relentless. I don't want anyone googling or flying by who is just figuring out there is an election coming up to be like 'Oh well my vote isn't needed anyways'. The rest of the country is NEXT year - but the State Government (in particular Governor) who will have oversight is NOW- Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
This is Trumplandia and lord knows what the Russians have planned for us. The only way to beat them is VOLUME.
Treat this election like you have to 'take the house' in 2018.
It's THAT serious. I'm very happy Obama is coming here. I don't give a shit what the local media says about 'Newark/Black/Minority' voters.
He will reiterate - Vote for the guy, who worked for the guy, who beat the Republicans twice. Not Christies little yip yip dog.

(10,828 posts)Exactly. No rest, no ho-hums or politics is so-o-o irrelevant or both parties are the same nonsense. If the Trump Era doesn't spur you to get off your ass and vote then we can all kiss the country good-bye. The stakes are that high. New Jersey (my native state), Virginia, even Alabama needs all Dems to get the vote out NOW. No excuses.
As for the abysmal polls, the Trumpsters will cry foul, fake news. We need to prove them wrong.

(31,811 posts)It's our 2018.
I also don't think we are flipping Red districts here next year. Lenny and Rod will keep their seats.
But in 2020 - when we redistrict?
Game on for 2022.
This is our 2018. We can't allow that racist yip yip dog Kim G take Trenton. She was Trump before Trump.

I'm ready to blow those bastards up. Maybe Cersei can take care of that at the next GOP National Convention.

(15,642 posts)beliefs I've heard conservatives espouse by using the term " constitutional republic" that our founding fathers didn't mean for us to all have a vote for our leaders -- only the those who were endowed with sufficient knowledge, prudence, and wisdom. They somehow seem to think that should be extended to the Presidency.

(58,647 posts)We face an inherent problem in the fight against conservatism and it's correllary, Trumpism.
Conserves tend to be people of faith/religion. They see sinking polls and claim "God will provide" and continue working.
Liberals/progressives tend to be people of realism. They see sinking polls and far too many of them lose heart and give up, since "reality" and "facts" point out they're losing.

(58,647 posts)but that is the stream we're trying to swim up. So many people have given up, it's hard to re-energize them.

(15,642 posts)I'm participating in the DNCs Neighbor-to-Neighbor program here locally to "get out the vote" in 2018 (actually also on local elections this fall). Of course, I'm retired and have the time.
Anyway, you are right (and your theory about conservatives vs liberals makes a lot of sense to me) ... a lot of folks are discouraged or are tuning out for the sake of personal, mental well-being. All I can do is try to give them a reason to feel more hopeful and perhaps energized.

(1,097 posts)Shortly after tRump went on his illegal voting rampage, a deplorable woman claimed that she saw all those illegals voting by the bus load, lots of buses. She said and this is just one state, I'm sure they were doing it in other states as well.
So the popular vote is incorrect and tRump probably won that too.
