Trump is wearing me down and

I know I'm not alone.

This creature is destroying our country.

This is not the country in which I grew up and in which I've lived most of my life. It seems like some kind of post apocalyptic land in which Orwell's "1984" is becoming a reality.

I'm mentally exhausted. And I feel totally helpless to change, prevent, and/or counter what has befallen us.

Perhaps next year's congressional elections will put the Democrats in control of the House and Senate, and this would put some restraints on this madman. But I'm not holding my breath for this to come about. Gerrymandering and voter suppression have put Republicans in a position to hold onto power for the foreseeable future.

My two biggest fears before the election were: (1) Trump appointing Supreme Court justices, and; (2) Trump having control of the nuclear codes. Both are now realities.

Beyond those two things, everything this man touches turns into a horrible nightmare. And it's a nightmare which the Republican Party refuses to end. Which means they are complicit in the destruction of America.

The endless emails I receive to sign petitions, or donate to this or that organization that opposes him, are nothing more than (well-meaning) pleas in a hopeless darkness, or organizations looking to profit from our national misery.

I'm not ready to surrender. But at the moment I feel helplessly impotent to fight the madness that has engulfed America.

In posts I've made over the years that I've been a member of DU, I've virtually never talked about myself. But, damn! I'm tired, worn out and despairing over what we've become.

When do we reach the point where Enough is really Enough? And if/when we reach that point, exactly what do we do?

But that would infer (is it infer here or imply) that he has a plan.

He has no plan outside of the next 30 seconds. He can change his mind on the most important issues facing humankind 3 times in 4 minutes.

He is a psychopath and he is uneducated and he is dumb.

It would be one thing if he was like that killer in that Showtime series Dexter, at least he was SMART. But no, he is as dumb as a fence post, for REAL.

Sorry, amigo. There's plenty of plans out there. I'm just saying we gotta keep going. The spirit of Valley Forge, the spirit of Gettysburg. The raw pluck that beat the Depression and broke Jim Crow and unleashed the Industrial Revolution. The can-do spirit that turned the self-determination dreams of a handful of farmers and country lawyers on the western edge of civilization into the rallying cry of the modern age. They didn't give up and Americans may get tired but they never give up. The bastards may trouble us, but we'll never let them keep us down. Rah rah. I believe in that stuff.

It didn't sound like you needed an engine design; it sounded like you needed some fuel.

more harm he does.

We wont resolve this, we wont.

Best case is NY AG getting something on trump himself, otherwise the 18 elections are already decided by Putin.

For real.

Well, by Putin and by the movement that is criticizing the Democratic party.

Mueller meets with Trump, Pence and congressional leaders of both parties. He presents an air-tight case that involves likely prison sentences for POTUS and VP. Pence resigns and Trump appoints Hillary Clinton to replace him. Trump then resigns after dissolving his cabinet. Hillary Clinton gives limited pardon to Trump and Pence in accordance with deal brokered by Mueller. The Constitution stays intact and democracy survives.

the line of succession is the Speaker of the House -- Paul Ryan.

This would be a Republican wet dream and our worst nightmare. Ryan would pass, through a Republican congress, everything we abhor. And Ayn Rand would be smiling in her grave.

Nelson Rockefeller served as Vice President under President Gerald R. Ford. Ford had been the first vice president to be appointed under the provisions of the 25th Amendment, and ascended to the presidency following the August 1974 resignation of Richard Nixon over the Watergate Scandal; Ford selected Rockefeller as his replacement. Prior to being appoited VP, Gerald Ford had been House Minority Leader and not Speaker of the House

Under Section 2 of the 25th amendmnent, whenever there is a vacancy in the office of Vice President, the President nominates a successor who becomes Vice President if confirmed by a majority vote of both Houses of the Congress.

It's inconceivable that he will be president for 3 to 7 more years.

But even if Mueller brings him down, the line of succession is Pence, the speaker of the House, -- Paul Ryan, -- and then the President of the Senate pro tempore, -- Orin Hatch.

They will enact their lunatic agenda, even with Trump gone.

Despite a good night's sleep, I found myself so exhausted this afternoon I crawled into bed for a couple of hours for a nap. I seem to think about this mess every waking hour of the day. Today I figured I had hit peak exhaustion when I listened to George W. Bush and thought "statesman." LOL.

when this imbecile is no longer in charge.

In the meantime, keep working for better candidates and doing the other things you mentioned in your post.

You are not alone.

If you have ever lived with a narcissist or an abuser, you know how this wears you down. The feelings are just the same. People who survive this set goals and make plans to get away. There is little difference with trump. Our entire country is being abused by a narcissist. We WILL get away.

"The effect is a permanent state of disorder: a de-stabilized media, an exasperated citizenry, and a fractured opposition, divided and pulled into mudslinging sideshows. In some ways, it resembles Surkov’s non-linear warfare."
