Trump judicial nominee: I discriminate against gay people, and trans kids are part of Satans plan

Trump judicial nominee: I discriminate against gay people, and trans kids are part of “Satan’s plan”
Jeff Mateer made the remarks during previous speeches.
Updated by German Lopez Oct 19, 2017, 2:10pm EDT

One of President Donald Trump’s nominees for the federal judiciary previously said in a speech that he discriminates against gay people, according to a new report from Vice.

“Guess what? I attend a conservative Baptist church. We discriminate, all right. On the basis of sexual orientation, we discriminate,” Jeff Mateer said in a 2015 speech at the National Religious Liberties Conference. “Does that mean I can’t be a judge? In some states, I think that’s true, unfortunately.”

Mateer is the first assistant attorney general in Texas. Trump nominated him to the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

The remark isn’t the only anti-LGBTQ comment Mateer has made over the years. He also argued that same-sex marriage is unconstitutional, that marriage equality is a “challenge” for Christians, and that transgender children are part of “Satan’s plan.” (He did not respond to Vice’s request for comment.)

This is admitting to genuine discrimination as part of the job. I still expect him to get confirmed, but we need to make sure everybody knows exactly how immoral the GOP is being here.

on who to promote as judges.

And while I'm on the subject of Trump and the religious right - the American religious right has long been in Russia, forming an anti-gay alliance, helping to support and shape abusive policies against LGBT people. Then there's the crossover of white supremacy, Russia, and homophobic beliefs. And the crossover of white supremacy, the religious right, and homophobic beliefs. Then the Trump family and their long association with Russian oligarchs and thugs.

Is it any wonder an alliance would be formed with Putin's Russia and right-wingers on an American election?

Seems like a natural progression for those involved, doesn't it?

I've read where Trump was talking up the religious right back in 2011. That all those factors would coalesce isn't exactly surprising.

If Mueller isn't looking into the connection between the religious right, Trump, and Russia, then he is missing a huge chunk of the puzzle.
