Military Dictatorships for Dummies: Internet appalled after Huckabee Sanders says generals cant be questionedELIZABETH PREZA
20 OCT 2017 AT 16:31 ET
Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday made a stunning remark about the appropriateness of questioning a four star Marine general, lambasting members of the press for pointing out Gen. John Kelly mischaracterized a 2015 speech by Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL).
If you want to go after General Kelly, thats up to you, Sanders said during Fridays press briefing. If you want to get into a debate with the four-star Marine general, I think thats something highly inappropriate. Go ahead.
That comment shocked the Internet on Friday, with users pointing out her remarks were more indicative of a dictatorship than Americas constitutional democracy.

I was never a fan of Colin Powell after his weak understanding of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq = disaster. We can do much better!

(46,676 posts)For at least two decades. Military officers come into our communities and either take civilian jobs or community leadership positions and they expect to be treated like they were when they were in the military. This leaves way too much room for legal errors and omissions. Heard it from the ex officer who sold our house. "Nobody as ever questioned my word before." He was not happy. Turns out he should have told us an important detail about our community.
But I think that a good ole boy community knows about the tendency to go easy on the military guys and exploits it. Sadly, I think that some ex military know about this and abuse their power.

(1,513 posts)People are so naturally hierarchical. Since most people are natural followers they seem to yearn for the strong men to tell them what they must and should do. And what they shouldnt do.
Putin today decided to instruct Americans on how they should respect and honor Trump. After all he won without any Russian help and by winning is automatically deserving of respect.
Pat Robertson and other fundamentalist cretins have proclaimed Trump the anointed of God.
The authoritarian mindset finds this natural and desirable. Without the stubborn resistance of George Washington we would have elected a king. I think we all forget that.
We are again having that national discussion.
Im not confident that well emerge whole this time.

That's not a good reflection on the honor of the officer corps.

(1,134 posts)After all, her father, 4-Star asshole and chief Trump sycophant, Mike Huckleberry, provides a genetic pool of sewage, laced with a right-wing, goose stepping philosophy. I'm also now aware of John Kelly's deep seated Bostonian racism, as it came rippling to the surface, as he chastised a Black Congresswoman, especially when she supposedly called the hated Obama (not President Obama, just Obama). These people just write their own obits from redneck hell!
