"...For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged..."

"For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Or as Chuck D rapped " By the same standards..."

That's a hard one to live by , isn't it ?

Do we judge people we are inclined to like and agree with with the same measure we judge people we are disinclined to like and agree with.

Lyndon Johnson's handling of the Vietnam War comes to mind. He bombed a largely agrarian society back to the Stone age and then blamed heartfelt resistance to the war on communists. He also did more to further the cause of civil rights than any president other than Lincoln. He gave us the Voting Rights Act, the Fair Housing Act, and other landmark civil rights legislation. He also gave us Medicare and Medicaid.

That being said if he was a Republican many of us would have excoriated him for his prosecution of the war.

I was in the civil rights and anti war movements during Johnson’s presidency. He was more than soundly criticized. We would not have treated him differently on the war if he had been a Republican.

Democrats punished Johnson politically. He failed to run for another term because of Vietnam. That punishment came from the left. "Hey, hey, LBJ, how many kids have you killed today?" It doesn't get any rougher politically.

I have always believed Johnson suffered deeply for lying us into that war. Unlike W, he had a conscience, and it ate him up.
