Betty Price Wonders If People With HIV Should Be Quarantined

WASHINGTON — Georgia state Rep. Betty Price (R) — the wife of Tom Price, who resigned last month as President Donald Trump’s health secretary amid investigations into his frequent use of private planes — wonders if isolating people with HIV would help stop the disease’s spread.

Price, a former anesthesiologist, made the suggestion during a committee meeting earlier this week on access to healthcare, as Project Q Atlanta first reported.

“What are we legally able to do?” Price inquired. “I don’t want to say the quarantine word — but I guess I just said it. Is there an ability, since I would guess that public dollars are expended heavily in prophylaxis and treatment of this condition, so we have a public interest in curtailing the spread? What would you advise? Are there any methods, legally, that we could do that would curtail the spread?”

After a thoughtful response from Dr. Pascale Wortley about the steps Georgia has taken to identify people with HIV and get them proper care, Price voiced fear about the spread of HIV in the state, which in 2015 ranked 5th among all 50 states for new diagnoses.

Acting as if she was hesitant to use the word but fully intending to get that thought out there. If you're willing to cross that line - rounding up people w/ a treatable/livable disease in the name of public interest, health, and tax dollars expended - then you know the next step is to go after anyone LGBT and call it a preventative measure - and I'm sure in other company, Betty Price does complete her full thinking on the subject.


This isn't about HIV/AIDS - it's about LGBT people, period.

She would be the last person I wanted putting me under. I wouldn't trust her at all.

considering who she is, who her husband is, the party they belong to, and the views they hold - they are thinking in terms of how to attack the LGBT community.

People facing the prospect of quarantine would simply avoid being tested and diagnosed. This would prevent them getting treatment, and discourage them from taking other steps to prevent transmission.

The treatments that they currently have reduce transmission to virtually zero.

The real agenda here is likely to increase HIV rates, increase mortality, and decrease public spending.

without computers, cell phones, or other means of communication may stop the scourge on our economy of insider trading. So she may have something there.

I suggest we isolate insider traders first and see how that works.

We seem to have successfully cut down on abuse of government funded private air travel by a related move-quarantining cabinet member Tom Price out of his cabinet position.

Use of the quarantine for hate groups might also be productive in preventing the spread of hate.

So lets not just dismiss Betty Price's musings out of hand.
