Is the sexual harassment scandal in Hollywood hurting the Democratic Party?

Before I continue, let me assert unequivocally right off the bat that I am NOT trying to justify, rationalize or advocate for the concealment of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is a crime and is NEVER acceptable or justifiable. Furthermore, the claims and concerns of the victims of sexual harassment must always be taken seriously and never dismissed.

That said, I fear that this scandal is doing tremendous damage to our party at a critical time just weeks before election day. While this clearly isn't a Democratic scandal, and I'm not suggesting that is, the fact remains that so many Reich wing media outlets, blogs and news sites are portraying it as such. They're getting a lot of mileage out of a horrible set of events and crimes that have absolutely nothing to do with politics, least of all the Democratic Party. Sleaziest of all, they're using these false accusations of hypocrisy in a transparent attempt to negate all criticism of Trump and viciously attack (as always) Hillary and the great legacy of President Obama. Blaming Hillary and Obama for Harvey Weinstein's monstrous behavior is as asinine as blaming the Republican party, including their beloved Dotard-in-Chief, for Ted Bundy's murders back in the 1970's (Yeah, he was a Republican who was once thought to have a bright future within the party in Washington state).

A year or two ago, I would've ended this statement by maintaining that if any voters are actually gullible enough to fall for this latest Reich wing smear campaign, they're dumber than a sack full of moldy peppercorns. However, after last year's Presidential election, we already know how gullible, naive, hate-filled, and, yes, STUPID so many Americans are.

And it doesn't help when some of our main party figures take 5 days to denounce the man that gave them millions for their campaigns.

I'm not saying that as any kind of reflection on the political beliefs of the original poster. However, it's important to use critical thinking skills when you run across this kind of information. Many of us come here to escape this kind of thing for a little while.

The people who may believe such are those who don't vote Dem or support our party. The Reich wing media outlets you refer to are preaching to the choir.

Men who sexually harass and/or sexually assault women are a bigger issue. We need to move to being proactive about making space in our society for those who aren't straight white guys. We need to make sexual harassment/violence, other sexism, racism anti-gay etc behavior something that isn't met with acceptance or looking the other way. If that causes some degree of harm in short term, do be it. LBJ was willing to take that hit on the Civil and Voting Rights Acts.

Also to avoid looking hypocritical when we condemn Trump for it, we need to condemn people who are affiliated with our party.

Sexual harassment seems to be party-blind, really. It's a patriarchy thing, not a political thing.

Is this, like your proposal to rename Ohio's capital, mere performance for the "gullible, naive, hate-filled, and, yes, STUPID Americans...?"

If so, a soundtrack of Lee Greenwood singing Easter carols would certainly lend it the entertainment value it so dramatically lacks.

If not, then it seems one's pretense of concern and sincerity may not be as convincing as one had hoped.

I defer to performance...
