And if Pence is then tossed into his evangelical, "no abortion, Jeezus" paradise, or wherever, we then have Speaker of the House. That's Paul Ryan who thinks Ayn Rand was "Wonder (wing-nut Republican) Woman."
And after that we then have the virtually senile President pro tempore of the senate, who is currently Orrin Hatch.
And after that we have the various members of Trump's nightmare cabinet members.
Are we are fucked beyond repair?
Then again, in the 2018 elections, and we regain control of the House, the Speaker of the House will be a Dem.
But does anyone really believe that the 2018 election will turn out well? The combination of gerrymandering, voter suppression and Russian bots have made it virtually impossible for Dems to control either house of the congress.
Let me repeat what I said above. Are fucked beyond repair?
Here's the bottom line. Will we, the vast majority of Americans, allow this to continue?
And what are we prepared to do to end it?
Suggestions?

Hatch wont do any of that, so lets hope for that.
Imagine a time where Orrin Hatch is someone you would give almost anything for.

Pence is an idiot. But we can survive and so can the world. With Trump, there is a real threat to the world's survival.
Trump either is worthy of being removed or he is not. If he is, then he is. Remove him.
Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to the world.

(10,418 posts)With Pence and the Republicans in Congress you mainly have regressive, Koch brothers stuff going on which is bad enough and will cause a lot of suffering, but it can be repaired. With Trump you have this shit with Russia, neo-Nazis, insanity, and hints at the apocalypse going on- Doomsday stuff. At the very least it's very harmful to the psyche of the nation and at worse could lead to the demise of humanity.

(15,027 posts)Please.
He may think it's his duty to bring on the Apocalypse.
Then again, he may just believe that America should be a "Christian" country.
Pence is just a different flavor of danger than Trump.

(115,576 posts)They don't believe in the Rapture because when they die they get their own planet anyhow, at least if they are men. They do believe in a Second Coming like many traditional Christians but they don't seem to think there's any way to "bring on" the Apocalypse. Pence is freakier, of course. But as bad in a traditional Republican way as Hatch is, he's not a Rapture freak. Most of the things a normally bad GOPer like Hatch does can be repaired with legislation. Trump starting WWIII because he's stupid and Pence starting it because he's a religious weirdo can't be repaired.

The relative horror of each successor mustn't dissuade us from acting against the horrible current occupant of the White House.

(38,301 posts)Trump could never tolerate Pence winning the White House, could never be the loser.
I don't think Pence would be Vice President if there wasn't some very serious dirt on him. That's the way the Republican party works, it's all held together by dirty secrets and threats of mutual assured destruction.

(15,027 posts)I believe (hope) that the Joint Chiefs of Staffs have figured out a way to stop any orders from Trump ordering a nuclear launch on anyone.
They must know he's a madman. And they must have contingency plans to avoid a nuclear war. -- Haven't they?

(38,301 posts)Maybe there's a dummy nuclear football they bring out for such occasions.
Lots of bells and whistles and ominous red blinking lights, but does nothing.
