And, my "sock" and contempt for the ignorant white wingers on that site was not really disguised. Hence I didn't last long. What's really funny is watching the silly fools on the Discussionist label everyone who shows up and criticizes the white wing attitudes that dominate the site, as the return of Hoyt.

So what, and what's your secret for being accepted by the dominant bunch?

32. Yes. There are a few sites that exist primarily to attack some other website.

More than a few, really, if you consider all of the types of discussions forums out there. I remember a boating forum I used to participate in that generated a couple of detractor websites similar to the one we're discussing here. A boating forum!

Generally, what happens is that some participant in a discussion forum gets banned for being an asshole. That person fires up another discussion forum to whine about the one that banned him or her. A few others who got banned or simply disliked the original site will join in.

There have been several anti-DU sites that have started up. The Old Elm Tree was one of them, but it's now defunct. There are still a few that are still active. Conservative Cave, though, wasn't started by a banned DUer. It exists on its own as a right-wing site, but spends much of its time bashing DU and DUers.

With any luck, its owner has grown weary of the site and has simply abandoned it. That would be the best outcome.

The real trouble with such sites is that all of them seem to have hidden, members-only areas that are used to collect personal information on members of the sites they are attacking. That has led, over the years, to some really serious stalking and other incidents. My attorney has a form letter ready to send out when that gets out of hand in my case. It has worked very well.
