The shots began at 10:05. Twelve bursts of gunfire later, the police broke down Stephen Paddocks door at the Mandalay Bay. The Times mapped 30 videos to draw perhaps the most complete picture to date of what happened.

(22,651 posts)really good Journalism. We can't do anything about "right wing blogosphere" of morons, except ignore them.

(51,550 posts)I have two relatives who were at that concert. They got out safely, but they appear to have lost their minds. They are right wing gun nuts, so they have been eating up the conspiracy theories on the internet, which has not been good for their mental health. They are convinced there was more than one shooter and the FBI was in on it. Gun nuts just don't want to believe one gunman can do all that damage. They can't accept the fact that Paddock was able to do this because he had a room full of automatic-firing bump-stock assault rifles with massive magazines. To my relatives, it can't be the crazy firearms we allow to be sold in this country, it HAS to be some kind of nefarious conspiracy to make guns look bad.

(14,565 posts)I didn't realize they were so prolonged and apparently caused by the security guards on that floor. Paddock panicked and devoted attention through the door. Otherwise with uninterrupted fire on the crowd the victim count could have been multiples higher.
It is a good video presentation of what took place. Only one video depicts a bleeding spectator being treated. The most startling aspect was how loud the shots were, when captured by one video directly underneath.
I lived in Las Vegas for 25 years. I've told many outsiders that casino activity would have been going on per norm despite the shooting. These videos depict that, including active cab stands and people lounging outside the Mandalay Bay entrance.

(51,584 posts)I know that they are trained for such things but still..... I was a teacher in elementary schools in Southern CA and have had to practice "earthquake" and "outside the classroom shooter" drills often. I know that in emergencies I somehow go into a completely different mode where I act automatically and rationally but I don't know how these police officers were able to perform so professionally and quickly under such circumstances.
This video was very good and should be seen by everyone, especially those who question the local police officers' timing and their actions during this horrific catastrophe.
