Appearing on MSNBC’s The Beat with Ari Melber, a sarcastic Rep. Ted Lieu shook his keys and said “look, shiny object” to Republicans who are frothing at the mouth over the latest Hillary Clinton emails story that the California Democrat labeled “stupid.”

For some reason, the hard-boiled, steely-eyed, seen-it-all-before bulldogs in the popular media are easily distracted by whatever dangly keys have captured Republican attention. We know why Republicans are desperate to change the focus from the malfeasance, corruption, and incompetence of their governance; the question for me is why reporters go haring off after the red dot with them every fucking time.
