Trump claimed, he invented the term "fake news"

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-09/donald-trump-takes-credit-for-coining-fake-news/9029062

In an interview with Christian TV network TBN, the President was criticising coverage of his response to the crisis in Puerto Rico when he briefly sidetracked and praised himself for using the word to describe the media.

"I think one of the greatest of all terms I've come up with is 'fake'," Mr Trump said.

"I guess other people have used it perhaps over the years, but I've never noticed it."

But the Merriam-Webster dictionary interjected on Twitter, and said the use of the term "fake news" dated back to the late 1800s.

...

Earlier this year Mr Trump claimed in an interivew with The Economist that he invented the phrase "priming the pump", an economic term that originated in the 1930s.

-------------

I very clearly remember where "fake news" comes from: It was originally used by the mainstream-media in 2016 to describe the lies coming from outlets supporting Trump, like Breitbart. THEN those very same outlets co-opted the phrase and began calling the mainstream-media fake news.

Al gore, who got the government to fund the internet, who made the web immensely useful by getting every government agency to put massive amounts of data online, who made a mild boast about his role.

Yeah, the media lied about his words, claimed he said he "invented" the internet, then joked endlessly about how ridiculous that was.

Al gore's career was ruined as his reputation as an honest Boy Scout was morphed into that of a casual liar, based on a word he never uttered.

But Benedict Donald will get away with this flagrant lie with nothing more than a chuckle from the media.
